CSHL SOL Action Research: Outcomes over 50 years

Royal Mail and Parcelforce

Productivity at a Royal Mail unit rose by 24% over 18 months; costs reduced by 19% over 12 months; and quality of service improved over 13 months – First Class mail from 97% to 99%, Second Class mail from 93% to 98%. At another unit a course for 29 new acting first line supervisors equipped 12 so well that they were promoted within 12 months.

A Parcelforce unit achieved a 33% reduction in unit labour costs, a 22% increase in parcel throughput and productivity was 22% higher while the trials of SOL were in place.

Education and Social Services

SOL has delivered outstanding results in teacher training, IT students, Primary and Special Needs schools, local authority education advisers, sports coaching, counselling and social care.

Air Intercept Control

There was a consistent 30-50% failure rate in training Royal Navy Officers prior to SOL. SOL methods were used in the design of an air intercept simulator. After the implementation of SOL a 100% pass rate was achieved.

Manufacturing

SOL enabled a multi-national food company to overcome uncontrolled variations in the quality of their leading product. New understandings among production and sales managers led to improved product, increased demand and customer satisfaction.
